A perfect Morning

This was a brilliant morning today ...
In the past weeks I and Roy have been roused by the incessant ring of our alarm and we always got up pretty tired.

Today was different. The warm rays of the morning sunshine softly tingled us and made us slowly come to our senses. It was nice to lie in bed some more time, hold hands and watch Ryan sleep ever so blissfully.

It was enough to fill me and Roy with happiness and warmth, and gave us the strength to tackle another day...

Another precious moment in our lives.
A perfect start to have everyday ... ideally.

So often we run behind time not wanting to spend an extra moment for want of being late. But sometimes, being late can be so nice.

Log your Time

How often have we not said " I don't get enough time to do all the things I want to do." or " I don't get enough time to sleep or spend with my family."

If you really would like to know where all the time went, then it makes sense to write down for a week or two in a detailed log how much time is spent on various activities.

For example, if I check Facebook for 10 minutes it's not much, but if I do that 6 times a day then it comes to 1 hour a day. That would be 7 hours a week.

Checking the time log would be an eye opener for us as it would show us precisely and without any excuse how we actually waste our time.

So if instead of Facebook I focus on activities that provide more value to my existence, I can slowly but steadily achieve and eventually do the things for which I did not have time earlier.

Maybe it is reading a book or doing a quick exercise or just playing with my son.

You have 168 hours in a week. If you subtract 8 hours per day for sleep you are left with 168-56 = 112 hours. It sounds like a huge quantity but do you know what all useful activities you have done in that time ?

No dear Valentine

Another Valentine's day. Another day just for cakes, chocolates, hearts, gifts and love. But why only this one day ?

Times have changed so much. Now Valentine's day is a day which is more of commercial value than human emotions. It is no more about sharing your feelings but more about spending more and more money so as to show you care.

As for me, I don't celebrate this day ...
In fact, I celebrated it only once, with Roy, in the first year of our marriage.
But thinking about it , it has not really been one of those unforgettable special moments in your life ...

There have been nicer moments where unexpected things happened on ordinary days. For example, one evening Roy brought me and Ryan a parcel of yummy momos. It wasn't very costly but it was a very nice and thoughtful gesture. Or when Ryan hugs and kisses me , it is priceless.
Money really has no role in this. On the contrary, if you can shower your love with the least amount of money the better.

Maybe we should just learn to be nice all 365 days rather than 1 or 2 days in a year. A small nice, inexpensive gesture every day will make such a difference ... to everyone's life.

Rest in Peace , Whitney !!

Whitney Houston passed away. And it made me feel sad ...

Whitney has been part of my childhood memories. We all have certain smells or sounds or songs associated with certain memories in our life. In my case, songs have influenced various stages of my life. In my childhood years, Whitney was an upcoming artist and her songs filled the air along with Michael Jackson, Madonna and the like.

The one thing I remember most about Whitney is the song "One Moment in Time .." which she sang for the 1988 Olympic Games. The video and the song together had something magical that stirred inside me the deepest emotions.
It was a song that made me feel that I could achieve anything in this world.

I admired her because she had a beautiful voice and personality to match, and in a world dominated by the "white race" she stood out.
Whitney was a lovely, bubbly, pretty girl with curly hair. I didn't come across many girls with curly hair and maybe because my hair too was curly I liked her.

Her face was always beaming with that beautiful smile of hers ...
Her voice had power as well as femininity.
Her voice and songs had something that came from the deepest soul.

Whitney's songs shall be cherished and remembered forever, by me and my generation ...

These are the lyrics of my favourite song:

"One Moment In Time"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown
I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains
I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands
Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity
You're a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine
Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free
Promoted to Glory
Someone I know posted this line referring to the demise of an acquaintance.
I have read many headings or statements such as "... passed away" or
" ... is no more" but this is the first time that I have seen this.
Thinking about it, it is actually nice to give a happy ending to a sad ending.
It is true, we are sad about our loss but we can be happy that our loved one has gone to heaven.
And it is indeed a promotion because whatever life we lived on earth , once in heaven it is certainly gonna be better.
Grandparents
Grandparents must be some angels sent from heaven ...
The bond that they have with their grandchildren is a very beautiful one. Grandparents are like ice cream and candy. The children, especially the little ones, always want to have more and more of them.
Grandparents are our teachers and role models just like our parents are.
And whereas parents have to be more strict, grandparents can be more lenient.
I never really had the opportunity to experience it for myself but through my son I have been able to see how wonderful it is. When I see my son interacting with his grandparents I am really amazed at the love and bond they share.
As a kid, my parents sent me to an elderly couple to look after me while they went to work. Sometimes I would play with ther grandchild who would visit them. Seing them interact with their grandchild made me long for mine.
In my imagination, my grandparents would play with me, read stories to me, make yummy meals for me. They would love and pamper me. I used to feel sad but as the years went by I forgot about it.
But now I experience the entire beauty of it through my son. And it makes me happy.
When my son Ryan is at his grandparents', the first person Ryan calls out for in the morning is "Grandma" because she would have been already up. He will have his morning chat with her while she gives him his breakfast. If Grandpa is also around Ryan will happily talk with both. Then he will join Grandma in the garden, running around or helping her water the plants and talking to our dog 'Tiger'. Ryan is totally at ease with them. He knows them in and out. He knows who will do what for him. And he will not want me to do things for him. It has to be either grandma or grandpa.
I think what makes the bond special is that both grandparents and grandchildren have time - time to enjoy and have fun. As parents, we are often too occupied with managing the household or our careers that we cannot devote the same quality time to our children. And to our parents,sadly.
Both our lttle children and their grandparents are the ones that need and want a lot of attention and care , and someone to talk to, even if it is just baby chat ...
The One Thing You Need
This dialogue is from the movie: "Hachiko: A Dog's Story"
"Do you love my daughter ?"
"Yes, sir. I do."
"Good. That is the one thing you need when times are bad."
Well said.
Dear
We met, we became friends , then destiny brought us closer ...
Two became one , until death do us depart ...
Though the journey hasn't been smooth ...
Lots of hurdles and obstacles to reach where we are ...
Now, when I look into your eyes I see my present and future with you ...
I see Hope, Love and Happiness ...
We are different like day and night,
Yet the bond that binds us is stronger than the strongest chain ...
Together, yet we fly like free birds ...
Soaring higher and higher ...
I know what you think even before you say it ...
You know my dreams even before I tell them ...
You like me just the way I am, with all my imperfections and flaws
My strengths you love
My weaknesses you happily overlook
You have made me a better person ... and still do ...
The best thing in the morning is to wake up besides you ...
and the best thing at night is to lie in your arms ...
Life was a garden of thorns with a few roses,
now with you in my life it has become a garden of lovely roses with a few thorns ...
You are the Angel that God sent from heavens
To wipe away my tears and
To make me laugh till tears come
Fights do happen and an occasional tear rolls,
yet we always make up and hug
Now thinking about them we laugh out heartily ...
You helped me up whenever I have fallen ...
I learnt from you to never give up
The most beautiful gift you have given me are our children ...
I can see You in them and them in You ...
And the best gift we can give our children is our Love
The power of E
I was wondering ...
What has made women such as Mother Theresa, Oprah Winfrey, Princess Diana or Mata Amritanandamayi so popular ?
They come from different backgrounds but they all do or did the same thing.
All have been compassionate and caring. And more, they have or had an ability to emotionally connect with the people around them - be it lepers or AIDS patients... All people longing for just one thing - LOVE.
A touch, a hug, a kiss or just the time taken to listen to the needy and showing empathy has brought a rainbow of happiness into the lives of so many people.
Interestingly, it is all women whom I have mentioned above. I don't doubt though, that there would be some men who could be as compassionate, but in the end I believe it is a woman's prerogative to be blessed with such values.
Happy New Year
I wish you all a Happy New Year 2012 !
Even more, I wish myself a Happy New Year.
Looking back at the last year ... It was a turbulent one. Lot of laughter, lot of tears, lot of happiness, lot of sadness.
The books I read last year were 'Megaliving' by Robin Sharma and '3 Mistakes of my Life' by Chetan Bhagat.
The former helped me achieve some new goals in my life ... I practised my driving, cooking, wearing of the Sari and also my blog writing.
However I let myself get hurt again and again.
It is in these times that I realize who really loves me. My family and friends are the ones who are there for me always. In this new era of facebook and twitter I may not have hundreds of friends or followers, but I must tell you ... I cherish the few that I have.
This year there is even more to do ...
My dream is to fulfil my dream ... And I shall do it !!
I will face obstacles, but I need to overcome then.
My goals should be:
* Learn to understand God better
* Take out more time for myself
* Meditate and listen more to your inner self
* Laugh more and be cheerful
* Be there more for my son and my family
* Learn to accept the fact that not everyone you love may love you
* Work hard & Party harder
* Enjoy every day and thank God for the good things in your life
* Exercise and keep an active life
* Daily ask yourself:
What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail
* Never give up hope.
* Make your talents work for you
* There are people who need you more than you think.
* Learn to play the Keyboard
* Do what you love and love what you do !!
* Dream and imagine .. what you see is what you get
* LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
This year, this day is a new chance for all of us. Let us embrace it with all our heart !!
